Life - Creatures of the Deep | Reflection

Unlike everything else I have reflected on in this blog, Life - Creatures of the Deep is the first Non-Fiction show I will reflect on. Now just like Fiction stories, Non-Fiction can still tell stories (although some are pretty much just facts). Biographies are amazing examples that Non-Fiction topics can indeed convey a story some you may have heard of include, 'The Theory of Everything', 'The Winds Rises' and 'Tokyo Idols'. Creatures of the Deep also tells a story, but this one is split up into many different segments. And each of these segments focused on a different animal.

There is one segment about cuttlefish, another about starfish, one about a coral reef and one about crabs. During the cuttlefish segment, it told the story about the cuttlefish mating season and how the males protect the females. When it goes to the starfish, it covers their daily ways of life and how they kill. Then there is the story of how a coral reef starts and develops. And finally, the story about crabs migrating while running into trouble along the way. Now I'm sure there were others, but I can't remember them well enough to talk about them. I would definitely say that Life - Creatures of the Deep goes over multiple stories while tying some in with each other.

I think the purpose of this type of storytelling is to make it exciting while still being informational. So rather than just listing off lots and lots of facts about the sea creatures, it focuses on only a few from each species and tells their story in a rather exciting manner. It may also be to get younger children more excited about learning. I personally think it does achieve its intention to be exciting while still managing to be an engaging story.

The story I remember the most was the one about the cuttlefish. I really like how the cuttlefish go to their own area after splitting away from the rest of the group. It feels like one of the cliche things you see in films where one character take another character to a secluded location and then talks about romantic feelings. But in this one they just kind of do it. I also really liked how the male protected his female from others until the feminine looking male came up to him. Then the femme-male just impregnated the actual female. I just really like how the situation went from something romantic to very silly very quickly.
